Internet Scam/Hoax/Virus Alert Page |
||||
PLEASE NOTEThere is a new scam out there which will cause you to infect your computer while thinking you are preventing a virus attack. A popup will tell you that your computer is infected and asks you to "Click Here" to fix the problem. The only problem with that is, clicking on that link will actually cause the virus to gain access to your system. The most common version of this virus installs a program called "Personal Antivirus" or PAV.EXE. That program is, in fact, a virus. Getting rid of this program is a challenge, so the proper course of action is to never click on those links. Close the popup only by clicking on the red X at the top right of the window or hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and end any running Internet Explorer processes. If you do get affected by this virus, it will tell you that certain websites will damage your computer. That is false. It somehow detects websites which can detect it's presence or that have links to software to remove it from your system. Some systems will see this page as a threat after being infected, because we have links to sites which can combat this threat. The Windows Live Virus Scanner below has been very effective in removing this threat, so far. You should also install Housecall and Hijack This from Trend Micro. These will help detect any unauthorized changes to your operating system. Ad Aware is another very useful program that will help you get rid of spyware, adware and other infections that are less lethal, but just as annoying. |

| Some of these are file downloads or contain links to file downloads.... They are safe to install on your system. We would never do anything to harm our visitors' systems, we want them to come back often and will only have links to places that can help you avoid or repair virus and adware damage. | ||||

*Note* IE stands for Internet Explorer. These have only been tested on IE 5 through IE 7. They may or may not work with IE8. The JDBGMGR link may no longer be needed. This was a hoax awhile back. An e-mail was circulated mentioning this file as a virus, when it was in fact, part of the Windows operating system. Many people deleted this file, then could not reinstall it with their system disk. We provided this copy for those people who were having all sorts of problems with their system after deleting this file. |
